Even though some still believes that whole porn industry is nothing but evil, it is interesting to actually check some facts on porn.
In this context, especially interesting or maybe even shocking, are the results of long term studies on sexual assault and porn, carried by Milton Diamond (professor of anatomy and reproductive biology at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, specialized in the field of human sexuality), who retired from the University in 2009 to continue with his research and travel consulting and Ayako Uchiyama.
Their conclusions come from more than 30 years of observations of Japan society. Milton Diamond and Ayako Uchiyama noticed a spectacular decreasing in number of (reported) sexual violence, including pedophilia. In the same years they observed a huge increase in popularization of pornographic movies, magazines and other materials. It did not take much to make a logical connection between those two trends. And even though the scientist admitted that the observed reduction of sexual crimes might have been influenced also by other factors, the mentioned correlation is undeniable.
To back up their conclusions they cite similar effects taking place in European countries like Germany and Denmark.
Therefore, Milton Diamond and Ayako Uchiyama refuted the popular believe that a widespread availability of sexually explicit material results in increase in number of sexual crimes that for a long time was a concern of governments in many countries.
