CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL Most of people you meet in your life have two competing desires: They want deep connection, non-loneliness, community, relationship, intimacy and yet they do not want to be tied down at all, they want to have the freedom to do whatever they want. Instead of finding a solution by taking the "out of the box" perspective, most of them decide to engage in consumeristic and convenient relationships. Sadly enough, the rest choose to numb themselves with television, cheap entertainment and poor substitutes of happiness. Relationships of all kinds are like sand held in your hand. Held loosely, with an open hand, the sand remains where it is. The minute you close your hand and squeeze tightly to hold on, the sand trickles through your fingers. You may hold on to some of it, but most will be spilled. A relationship is like that. Held loosely, with respect and freedom for the other person, it is likely to remain intact. But hold too tightly, too possessively, and the relationship slips away and is lost. Dare to stand for your life!
